Record a payment
Record full and partial payments against an invoice, see the status move, and understand what overdue really means.
When money arrives against an invoice, record it against the invoice itself — that is what keeps the outstanding amount and the reports correct.
Add a payment
Open the invoice and choose Add payment. The form asks for:
- Date — when the money actually arrived.
- Amount — what was paid.
- Type — Cash, Check, Credit card, Fund transfer or Other.
- Notes — internal only; your customer never sees them.
Save, and the invoice's status card updates immediately: it shows how much is Due and how much is Paid.
What the statuses mean
- Awaiting payment — sent, nothing settled yet.
- Partially paid — some money recorded, an amount still due.
- Paid — everything settled; the invoice is done.
- Overdue — the due date has passed and money is still outstanding.
There is also Mark as paid, for when you simply want to settle an invoice in one step rather than recording a payment of its own.
Part payments
Partial payments are just payments smaller than the outstanding amount. Record each one as it arrives — three part payments produce the same clean Paid end state as one full payment, and the status card tracks the remaining amount for you between them.
