Set up a tax
Add the taxes you charge, choose the organization default, and see how each one appears on your documents.
Taxes in Spheyas are entries you create once and then attach to any line item on a document. Each tax has a title — the name that appears on the document, like GST — an alias for your own use, and a rate.
The three tax types
- Primary — a single rate. The everyday case.
- Compound — a tax calculated on top of another, where the law works that way.
- Group — several taxes shown together as one line, each with its own rate.
Set your default tax
You can set one tax as the organization default. That is the tax offered first when you add a line to a document, so you are not picking from a list on every row. A zero-rate exempt tax exists for customers or sales where no tax applies.
On a document
Pick the tax on any line item. The document shows the tax per line and in the totals, and finalizing posts the tax portion to your ledger — which is what keeps your tax figures ready when tax time comes.
