Record a bill
Enter the bills you owe, track what is due, and record payment when you pay them — the purchase-side mirror of invoices.
A bill is an invoice pointed the other way: something your business owes. Recording bills as they arrive is what keeps your expenses and your reports honest.
Create the bill
- Go to Bills and choose New bill.
- Pick the vendor, or enter the details as a one-off.
- Set the bill date and its due date.
- Add the line items and any tax.
A bill starts as a draft and touches nothing until you send it. Save & Send posts it to your ledger — the expense lands in your Profit & Loss and the amount owing shows in your liabilities. Save & submit for approval does the same job through a sign-off step first, if you want one.
Pay the bill
When you pay it, open the bill and choose Add payment — date, amount, type and a note for your own records. Part payments work exactly as they do on invoices: the bill moves to partially paid, and what is left due updates on its own.
Correct a bill with a debit note
If a bill was wrong — overcharged, an item returned to the vendor — create a debit note from it instead of editing history. A debit note reverses the purchase properly, and you can apply it against the bill so the amounts owing stay right.
